Secret Families, an organization that donates gifts to Henry County children in need, will have SERVPRO team members assisting with delivery and wrapping of gifts.

If you are able to help this holiday season, we encourage you to do so! You never know, you might be working alongside a SERVPRO staff member.

The Thrill of Variety: Holli’s Story

8/21/2019 (Permalink)

Working for SERVPRO is more than just driving around in a bright green truck. The team at SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties is dedicated to providing quality restoration services.  Outsiders may see restoration as a series of “odd jobs,” but those who work for SERVPRO get a thrill out of the variety. Holli Poe especially loves that each day is different.

Every morning for Holli typically begins the same way- with a crew meeting, loading the vehicles for the days’ work, and collaborating with the team on the projects scheduled for the day. After that she is on her way to begin making the messes, “Like it never even happened.”

Holli shared a story about a client that with SERVPRO’s help came through a difficult trial… “We had a very kind customer who had a budget but also a lot of damage. We helped as much as we could and worked within her budget to clean it as much as possible with the constraints. She was very understanding and very happy at the end of the job.”

The SERVPRO team, including Holli, prides themselves on always helping or fixing any issue very professionally. They ensure the clients and customers are number one and always want SERVPRO to be the first call you make. When Holli isn’t working with the team you can find her volunteering at the Salvation Army or spending time with her family and friends.

“I appreciate the work SERVPRO provides for me daily,” Holli added. “And I enjoy all the people I work with.”

SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties appreciates all the work Holli does, and we are so glad you are on our team!

Extending the Family Feeling: Justin’s Story

Working in restoration is definitely not for everyone. For some however, it’s their niche. Justin is part of the team at SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties, and he enjoys making it “Like it never even happened.” Every day is different in the realm of restoration, but that’s what keeps Justin on his toes and looking forward to each day serving the community through SERVPRO.

After arriving at the office and participating in the daily team rally, Justin hits the town to begin completing his tasks for the day. These tasks can range anywhere from working in a crawlspace remediating mold to extracting water from a basement flood. No two days are the same, and that’s what keeps working at SERVPRO interesting for Justin.

“I appreciate getting out in our community and having the chance to meet new people and build special relationships,” Justin explained. “Our SERVPRO crew is like family and we like to extend that to others.”

Justin recalls helping a woman in the community who slipped into a depression after her mother passed. “Because of the depression, she kind of let things go,” Justin recalled. “SERVPRO was able to help, not only clean her house of the clutter and debris, but also allow her a fresh start in her home.”

He also had the opportunity to help a friend during the winter months. “My friend had gotten stuck in a muddy field and by the time the vehicle was freed, the entire thing was covered in mud. The SERVPRO team was able to take care of him and get him out of the pinch. He really appreciated it.”

Justin not only meets community members through SERVPRO, but in other platforms as well. Being enlisted in the Indiana National Guard, he is given the opportunity to reach even more members of the Henry and Randolph Counties. Justin also enjoys attending fundraisers, especially when they involve food! In addition to work and community activities, Justin loves spending time with his wife, two daughters, and dogs. He likes to go to the YMCA, play basketball with a group of friends on Monday nights, and completing small building projects at home.

SERVPRO appreciates having Justin on the team. Thank you for all that you do, Justin!

Seeing the Difference: Ray’s Story

5/1/2019 (Permalink)

Many people don’t get to see the immediate result of the work they do. That’s not the case with Ray Dickey, Operations Manager with SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties. Ray has the opportunity to see the difference SERVPRO makes for residents and businesses in the Henry and Randolph County area.

There aren’t many typical days for Ray, but he does usually start the day going over his productions schedule and getting the SERVPRO team of professional in place.

“Later, I’ll go out to do inspections on new jobs so we can get estimates going,” Ray noted. “I also like to check in on our current projects and make sure the staff has what they need.”

Back at the office, he helps field calls and emails, works on estimates, and lines up subcontractors when needed. Sometimes he needs to pitch in to help on a job. Ray appreciates the opportunity to see how SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties is making a difference for the people in the community.

“You can see the direct results right in front of you,” he shared. “We take a job from unclean and potentially hazardous… sometimes uninhabitable... to where it’s clean and safe to live and work in.”

Some of the jobs Ray has worked on have touched his heart. He recalls one family who had a little boy with a terminal illness. Through a non-profit foundation, he was able to take the trip of a lifetime. When the family came back home, however, there had been a fire in the house and the fire extinguisher had left behind a powder that made it challenging for him to breathe inside the home.

“This little boy just wanted to get back home, and his family wanted him to be able to spend his last days at home,” Ray explained. “They got ahold of us and we were able to go over immediately so he could go inside his home where he wanted to be.”

While Ray prides himself in caring for clients like they were family, sometimes they actually are.

“Right now, I’m working on a family member’s house that has severe water damage,” he said. “It’s great to know I can take care of them through a rough situation. They can rely on us.”

Ray has a deep appreciation for the SERVPRO corporation and claims that he bleeds green and orange. He has taken almost every certification available through SERVPRO.

“SERVPRO corporate gives us the tools and resources to provide a great service. I get to make a bad situation ‘Like it never even happened.’”

Giving Back by Serving Friends and Neighbors: John’s Story

3/20/2019 (Permalink)

SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties franchise owner John Mantor and his wife Delmy had always wanted to own their own business. They were introduced to SERVPRO by a friend, and after comparing franchise options and aligning them with family and lifestyle priorities, John and Delmy quickly discovered that SERVPRO was the perfect fit for their family.

John’s typical day at SERVPRO may feel like a whirlwind to onlookers, but he appreciates the opportunity to serve others and so he accepts the whirlwind that comes with this opportunity. No two days are alike. John’s busy days include scopes and estimates for potential clients, staff training, and helping clients with disasters.

“I love working with the public. It gives me great satisfaction to assist them to get their property back to "Like it never even happened."” John shared. “My customer is often distraught, but I know I can help them get through this situation.”

In one instance, John had an elderly couple who experienced extensive water damage. Water damage is difficult enough, but to compound the problem, there was also hoarding going on. It took several months to remove trash and debris, and then clean and sanitize the structure so that it could be rebuilt. In the end, this SERVPRO client had a beautiful home once again.

“It was an amazing transformation, and I am so glad we were able to help them!” he expressed.

John has had several instances where he was able to help family and friends in moments of distress. From a gallon of paint spilling over in a car’s interior to assisting when a trauma scene cleanup was required, SERVPRO of Randolph and Henry Counties has been there to help.

John loves working for SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties and appreciates the great system that SERVPRO provides and the flexibility his job allows.

“Spending time with my family is very important to me. Serving God and living for Him is my most important endeavor,” he expressed. “I enjoy playing and watching sports and coaching baseball.”

John is able to balance family life and his church life, while still allowing time to work with teens through Babe Ruth baseball programs and serving the children of the community through the Breakfast Optimist club. He loves giving back to the community where he works and lives!

Putting Hands and Heart to Work: Diana’s Story

2/28/2019 (Permalink)

Office Manager Diana Hill puts her hands and heart into working for SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties. Sure, Diana answers phones, handles paperwork and coordinates job audits. But often Diana is also involved in the production work of the personal items that are brought to SERVPRO. This includes hands-on monitoring, cleaning, and keeping an inventory.

Diana’s love for people helps her embrace the variety of tasks that come her way. She has many interesting stories about clients she’s helped, including a skunk that sprayed a dog who then ran throughout a home leaving the “skunk smell” everywhere. She also recalls helping a rental property owner remove smoke and pet damage from a property so it could be sold.

Diana knows better than anyone the difficulties faced after a flood or fire. Her extended family has had two separate instances where SERVPRO’s expert services were needed. In one instance, what some might consider a small washer flood wasn’t a “small flood” to her sister. SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties extracted the water, placed drying equipment throughout to dry the structure. Because of her sister’s allergies, SERVPRO took precautionary measures and scrubbed the air during the entire process, minimizing irritants in the air.

In a separate instance, SERVPRO helped Diana’s family get through a fire. Unfortunately, the home’s structure itself was a total loss, however SERVPRO was able to help clean & restore several personal items. One piece was uncleanable but was still a very special piece to her family, so SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties franchise owner John Mantor took the extra step of contacting a restorer to have the piece restored and refinished. Diana says, “I smile every time I see that piece! I know from my personal experiences what SERVPRO can do to help, and I want to be sure that I am doing all I can for the next person who calls for SERVPRO’s assistance.”

Diana enjoys meeting all kinds of people and helping them. “I appreciate the knowledge I have picked up and studied during my time at SERVPRO. The owner of my franchise is a great guy to work with and holds integrity very high, allowing me to truly love my job and the work we provide to our customers.”

SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties is glad to have Diana on the team!

Winter Weather Disasters

Ice Dams

Ice dams can be a major problem during the winter season. An ice dam is a buildup of ice that forms at the edge of a roof and prevents melting snow (water) from draining off the roof. This water that is building up needs a place to go and often will leak into a home and cause damage to walls, ceilings, insulation, and other areas.

Tip:

  • Ensure gutters are clean and secure. Leaves and debris accumulate, causing a damming effect on gutters, which could lead to roof problems and water damage.

Frozen Pipes

Almost everyone in Indiana has experienced a frozen pipe at some point in their life. Frozen pipes can burst at the point of the ice blockage, but more often rupture between the water source and blockage due to the backflow pressure. A burst pipe can cause considerable damage to your property if not addressed quickly. SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties is faster to any size disaster, bringing the latest equipment and training to help make your water damage "Like it never even happened."

Tips:

  • Keep cabinet doors open during cold spells. This allows warm air to circulate around pipes.
  • Keep a slow trickle of water flowing through faucets, especially if the pipes for faucets run through unheated or uninsulated areas of the structure.
  • Shut off outdoor faucets. Find the faucets shut-off valve in the basement or crawlspace and turn it to "off". Then open the outdoor faucet to help ensure it drains completely and the inner valve is shut off.

Puffbacks

A puffback is a messy furnace malfunction that occurs when an oil burner backfires, sending soot throughout your home or business. Puffbacks can leak soot particles slowly over time. More commonly, puffbacks happen all at once, covering your belongings and structure in a grimy soot. SERVPRO is equipped and trained to quickly and efficiently clean and restore your home or business following a puffback.

Tip:

  • Clean and maintain your HVAC system. Proper maintenance of your furnace can help reduce the risk of puffbacks.
