Getting Ready for the Thaw

Even though there might be snow in the forecast now, spring weather is just around the corner. This means more sunshine, warmer air, and complete thawing of all things cold. It can be very exciting anticipating the temperatures to come, but it’s important to be aware of the disaster that could come from ice and snow thawing.
When the thawing begins, the water must go somewhere. Depending on the amount of water, many different results can occur. One of the most important things to watch for is flooding in your basement or crawl space. The water is going to naturally run down, which can cause water damage to anything in your basement, flooring, and walls.
Where there is a persistent source of water, there is always a potential for mold. As the temperature begins to rise and everything is moist from thawing, keep an eye out for mold around your home. Specifically check closely in your basement, crawl space, and garage.
