When Thunderstorms and Flooding Strike- Give SERVPRO a Call

It’s great to look forward to the warmer days of spring, but it’s also important to remember that this change in the weather can bring disaster with it. Warming temperatures threaten to trigger thunderstorms and flooding. As spring continues, here are a few things to keep in mind:
- Thunderstorms occur most often in the spring and summer months during the afternoon and evening hours but can occur anywhere and anytime. These powerful storms can dump large amounts of rain in a short period of time, resulting in flooding and power outages. Be sure to keep your gutters cleaned out and properly working to avoid large accumulation of rainwater.
- Flooding during storms are common but can be more serious during the springtime. Homes and business owners with basements need to pay close attention during flood season, to avoid damage to the foundation.
Never drive through flooded roadways and avoid contact with floodwater when possible. If the water has entered a structure through the flooding of a creek, stream or river, or if it has filtered through insulation during its intrusion, it is also to be considered black water and could be hazardous to your health.
“If your home or business is affected by a flood, remember, quick action is critical to minimizing damage and long-term health risks,” says John Mantor, owner of SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties. “We hope people will simply add us to your contact list in your phone. We’re here to help.”
