Signs of Water Damage in Your Bathroom

Your bathroom sees the highest water usage in your home, so it’s an area where water damage can easily occur. The damage can often be found behind the walls or under the floor. You might think soaking the water up with a towel will suffice, but more than likely the water has already begun wreaking havoc.
When water pools under the bathtub or shower it can cause mold or mildew to form which leads to wood rot. This damage can be so severe that it is possible for your bathroom appliances to fall through the floor if not remedied. Don’t fall victim to water damage in the bathroom- check for these three signs you may have bathroom water damage:
Spongy or soft floor- If your bathroom has a wooden floor, the sub floor is likely made of plywood. If plywood is subject to water, it will begin to rot, and your floors will feel spongy or soft in places.
Musty smell- If your bathroom continues to smell musty or damp, even after you clean it, you might have mold and mildew in the walls and subfloor.
Gaps between caulk, tub, and tile- If you have visible gaps in the grout or caulk of your shower or bathtub, water might be seeping into the walls and subfloor. This water leak could lead to mold, mildew, and wood rot.
