Stay Aware of Winter Weather Hazards
1/12/2022 (Permalink)
Winter weather doesn’t only have the ability to affect your mood, but it could also negatively affect your home as well. With freezing temperatures, heavy snowfall, forceful winds, and ice- the damage to your home can be severe and happen quickly.
It’s important during winter that you keep an eye on severe winter storm advisories, freezing temperatures, or heavy snow/ice possibilities. Winter storms can cause the following to happen to your home:
- Ice dams and snowfall can be very heavy and lead to a leaking roof, falling tree limbs and damaged gutters. If possible, remove the ice as quickly as possible.
- Freezing temperatures can cause frozen pipes that lead to water leaks. Leave cabinet doors open to allow heat to hit the pipes and keep water dripping to help with the complete freezing of the pipe.
- Wet conditions can lead to dry rot and mold around or inside of your home. These conditions can be very dangerous and must be taken care of immediately.
