Be Proactive: Storm Protection

Preparing for a massive storm is the key to avoid any extensive damage that will lead to major trouble
Oftentimes, when you live in the Midwest, your nose can sense a storm brewing. Preparing for a massive storm is the key to avoid any extensive damage that will lead to major trouble.
Follow along for some helpful tips in protecting you and your loved ones in whatever Mother Nature will bring.
- To ensure everyone's safety, bring your children and pets to a sturdy shelter. It is better to be cautious than risky.
- If the storm becomes high danger, evacuation may be the most appropriate course of action. Sometimes, your local officials will recommend evacuation as well if the storm causes enough concern.
- As soon as you feel the wind rolling in, move the lawn equipment, such as chairs, tables, or umbrellas, into a sound structure. This way you can avoid any chance of seeing your furniture in your neighbor’s pool.
- Do not attempt to ride out the storm if it is categorized as a three, four, or five. These are considered far too dangerous to be out and about. Please seek shelter.
- It is important to monitor the ever-changing weather patterns that come with living in the Midwest. SERVPRO advises that you check the weather multiple times per day during any chance of storms.
Keeping these steps in mind will add an extra layer of comfort to you as the storms come surging through. In the case of storm damage, SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties provides mitigation to your home or business. This includes any necessary demolition, water removal or extraction, and structural drying. Do not hesitate to give SERVPRO a call at 765-575-8654 or email sp9675@att.net and make it “Like it never even happened.”
Carpet Cleaning for Businesses

Holli Poe and Raymond's son, Raymond, are in carpet cleaning action at WholeHeart Communications.
At SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties, the team does more than fire and water disaster restorations. Deep-cleaning your company’s carpets is also a service they offer. SERVPRO provides advanced cleaning equipment to bring your business back to top-notch shape. Accidents happen, damage can occur. This is exactly what happened to WholeHeart Communications in New Castle, Indiana.
After WholeHeart Communications moved into their new office at “The Hub” in downtown New Castle, Christy Ragle, the owner of the public relations and marketing agency, noticed dark stains on their relatively new carpet. Christy called SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties, as she knew she would receive the best care.
When Raymond Dickey, Operations Manager and certified Master Textile Cleaner from the IICRC, arrived at the office to take a look, he developed a game plan. He later returned with other SERVPRO employees, Holli Poe and Raymond's son, Raymond. Holli is a Lead Technician, Production, and Content Specialist with a certification in carpet cleaning from the IICRC.
- SERVPRO's first step was that they needed to identify the proper carpet cleaner to use as Christy was unsure what caused the stain.
- Then, the SERVPRO team made a plan to steam the carpet which would eventually extract the stain.
- Next, SERVPRO’s team used a litmus test to determine the pH balance of the spot. This helps the team determine the proper cleaning solution.
“It’s all about optics,” Dickey said. “We can’t necessarily remove the stain, but optics tricks the eye.” PH balance is the main way you pull out stains or treat carpet. The perfect pH is seven, and anything below that is acidic, while anything above is alkaline.
The team of three was able to smoothly clear all mystery stains left on the carpet and made it “Like it never even happened.” Christy was thrilled to have her carpets look brand new.
“We were getting ready for our open house and our carpets needed some serious help,” she shared. “I knew exactly who to call. The team at SERVPRO knows what they are doing and I knew they would do their best to get our carpets looking as good as possible.”
SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties prides themselves on staying in touch with the best practices for textile cleaning. If your business needs a deep carpet cleaning, give SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties a call at 765-575-8654 or email SERVPRO.henry@gmail.com.

Emergency Readiness Profiles (ERPs) provide you and your employees with comfort and protection as you go about your workday.
The team at SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties highly recommends every business has an Emergency Readiness Profile (ERP). Whether your business recently moved into a new location, or you have been there for years, it’s important to know where all of your utility connections and safety features are located. If you have been in the same area for some time, it might be time for an update on this information. It is important you and your employees are aware of all precautions.
An ERP outlines all of the necessary safety measures about your location or building. After SERVPRO makes their assessment, all of this guidance is stored in a bright green folder. The SERVPRO team advises that you keep this in a common spot for employees to have easy access. In case you lose your copy or are unable to retrieve it, SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties will keep one in their records. This is a free service provided by the SERVPRO team.
Emergency Readiness Profiles provide you and your employees with comfort and protection as you go about your workday. Knowing you have an ERP in your vicinity will make it easier in case of an emergency situation. Nonetheless, if an emergency does occur, give SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties a call at 765-575-8654 or email SERVPRO.henry@gmail.com, and they will make it “Like it never even happened.”
Do's and Don’ts of Emergency Water Damage
8/2/2022 (Permalink)
When it comes to water damage in your home or business, it’s best to leave the project to trained professionals.
Today’s DIY culture makes sense when it comes to learning nifty home project tips on decorating or remodeling. When it comes to water damage, however, it’s best to leave the project to trained professionals. If you attempt to fix the damage yourself, you could make costly mistakes. Here are a few dos and don’ts you CAN follow when it comes to water damage.
Do
- Shut off your water source right away. This way you can prevent an excessive amount of damage before it continues.
- Take as many pictures as possible. By taking more pictures, you help prove to your insurance company the extent of the damage to your home and personal belongings. Another tip to prove the date of damage is to place the current dated newspaper in the video or picture frame.
- Contact your insurance company and file a claim. Using the photos, you can help access any potential coverage.
- Remove as much water as you can. Do your best to avoid causing secondary water damage in this process. This could be electrical, structural, or material damage.
- Call SERVPRO immediately. SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties takes pride in earning many certifications related to water damage and restoration. The SERVPRO team is here to help cleanup and restore from your water damage.
Don’t
- Call an unlicensed contractor. This is not the time for a shortcut. Reach out to an experienced professional with the tools and resources you need.
- Walk or tread through the water damage. For safety reasons, avoid this as there could be potential electrical exposure.
- Assume you have removed all the water and dried it. Call SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties for a moisture check since it’s impossible to detect remaining water without specialized tools.
- Turn on the lights. Ensure the light’s globe is not full of water or the fixture is not dripping. This could lead to further damage.
- Start removing materials such as flooring or drywall. If you attempt to remove it before it is approved by insurance, it may not be covered. Much of these materials can be saved through the detailed cleanup and restoration process.
Fixing the damage on your own is not an easy feat and often leads to extensive damage. If you find yourself in the thick of water damage, contact SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties. SERVPRO is faster to any disaster and can make it, “Like it never even happened.”
Post-Fire, Pre-SERVPRO
8/1/2022 (Permalink)
If you find yourself involved in a fire, give SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties a call at 765-575-8654.
In an emergency situation as hectic and traumatizing as a fire, you will want to help the circumstances as much as possible — it is human nature. However, be sure that what you are doing does not worsen the outcome.
Here are some guidelines on what to avoid and what to keep in mind in case of a fire.
1. The first thing you should do after the fire is under control is call your insurance company.
- You will want to have proof that they were contacted on the date of the fire. This will allow you to maximize your insurance coverage.
- The next item on your checklist is to receive a claim number from your insurance company. Claim numbers are important because they are the actual proof that you submitted a claim to the insurance company. These can also be viewed as holding your “spot in line” with the company, and some have different priority levels.
- Then, you should receive your insurance adjuster’s contact information. Whether it is their cell phone number or email, you must be able to reach them. Their job is to authenticate the claim and decide on an equitable amount for settlement.
2. After the fire occurs, leave the clean-up to SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties. Do not start cleaning or disposing of items yourself as this could lead to further damage. This process is best left to a team trained and certified in fire damage. We also recommend that you avoid breathing in the fire and smoke fumes, as this can damage your lungs. These harmful chemicals could lead to further damage on your body than the damage done on the structures.
Following these tips could help you avoid any major trouble in the event of a fire. If you find yourself involved in a fire, give SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties a call at 765-575-8654 or email sp9675@att.net. They’ll make it, “Like it never even happened.”
Preventing Water Damage
7/27/2022 (Permalink)
Check all water lines including the shut off and connection points to ensure there are no leaks.
During the months of June through August, the summer is known for its dramatic rain storms. This can lead to significant damage to homes structurally or cosmetically. Much of this damage can be prevented by performing different acts of care to your home systems.
Here are some helpful tips on what you can do to avoid water damage to your home.
- Check all water lines including the shut off and connection points to ensure there are no leaks.
- Clean your gutters out regularly as water must be able to flow freely. Make sure gutters and downspouts are moving water away from your home as puddles of water could damage your foundation. A possible solution to redirecting your water is a downspout extension and elbow. Downspouts should be releasing water at least 10 feet away from your home.
- If you have a sump pump, verify the quality of it. Sump pumps help keep groundwater out of your basement or crawl space. You can test it by filling the sump pit with water and see if water is pumping out. If it does not, double check that the sump pump is plugged in and the breaker is working. Outlet pipes could also be frozen or clogged, discharge lines could be dirty, or the motor might not be working properly.
- Make sure your drain lines are not blocked. If they remain clogged, all the sewage and wastewater will continue to sit. Eventually, they will move into a different drain and begin to come into contact with the floor drains, creating a stench.
- Pay attention to your water bill. A large change in it might correspond with a leak. While some home insurance may cover this, it is important to keep an eye out for any strange occurrences.
- When the temperature starts to drop, winterize outside water accesses. The first step in this process is to shut off the water. Next, detach and drain the garden hose. Drain any remaining water. Then, open the bleeder cap on the side of the water supply valve to release trapped water. Lastly, turn off the outdoor spigot to stop cold air from entering the piping system.
Water damage can be such a headache. SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties is here to help you in any situation, and make it, “Like it never even happened.” Give SERVPRO a call should you experience water damage at (765) 575-8654.
Tips on Water Damage
7/20/2022 (Permalink)
Regularly check areas of possible water damage. These areas can go unnoticed, and it’s better to be aware of it before it becomes an issue.
Whether it be a flooded basement after a pipe burst or a summer storm causing significant damage to your home, your personal belongings may be at risk. Keeping your children’s art projects or your cherished basketball jerseys protected is as important to SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties as it is to you. Here are some helpful tips on how to save your prized possessions.
- While storing personal belongings in your basement, keep items at least six inches off the ground to help prevent possible water damage. This will stop any sitting water from soaking in.
- Plastic totes are a lifesaver for belongings when they are in an area with potential water damage. The thicker material provides better protection against the harmful effects of water.
- Be proactive and do not store any possessions near potential water damage sites. These include, but not limited to, pipes, bathrooms, and attics.
- Regularly check on areas of possible water damage from time to time. Sometimes water damage can go unnoticed, and it’s better to be aware of it early so it won’t become a major issue.
- Avoid putting your things against the walls or tucked into the corners. Stacking items close to the wall restricts the air flow, allowing condensation to accumulate and increasing the chance of mold.
Should you find yourself a victim of water damage in your home, there is no need to worry. SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties offers 24/7 emergency restoration services and will clean it up, “Like it never even happened.”

April Showers Bring May Flowers

“April showers bring May flowers” but dealing with rainfall in the moment can be quite inconvenient.
People often say, “April showers bring May flowers,” and based on that theory our gardens will be more beautiful than ever in just a few weeks. The heavy amount of rainfall this season provides may eventually lead to flowers and sunshine, but dealing with rainfall in the moment can be quite inconvenient.
That is why the team at SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties is committed to making sure you understand how an abundance of rain can have an impact on your home. As we go throughout this wet season, be sure to prepare yourself and your home for any of the following problems caused by heavy rain or standing water:
- Sump Pump Backup- Sump pumps are used in homes to transfer accumulating water from a basement to the outside. In situations where there is a heavy amount of rain, a sump pump may struggle with keeping up, leading to a potential backup and flooding.
- Septic System Failure- Septic systems are underground water chambers used to treat wastewater. They are common in rural areas such as ours. Heavy rainfalls and accumulating water can oversaturate your land and cause your septic system to flood.
- Mold- Anytime there is a buildup of water or moisture in a home or building, there is a high likelihood mold will develop. Once it starts growing in an area, it can multiply quickly causing a toxic problem for homeowners.
The team at SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties are experts in water damage repair and restoration. If you find yourself in need of help after suffering from any of the above issues, they are here for you.

How can you be prepared for a house fire?
- Have an emergency exit plan mapped out, educating all who live in the home of the exits that should be used. Also, plan who is responsible for grabbing important documents or items as well as pets.
- Keep copies of important documents in a fire-safe container or something that can easily be accessed during your emergency evacuation.
- Know where your gas shut-off valves are located in case you begin to smell smoke throughout the home. This can alleviate further damage that can occur if gas is leaking.

How To Prevent Water Damage This Winter
10/30/2021 (Permalink)
Whether it’s a leaky pipe, devastating storm, or malfunctioning appliances—water damage is a homeowner’s worst nightmare.
Whether it’s a leaky pipe, devastating storm, or malfunctioning appliances—water damage is a homeowner’s worst nightmare. Just the idea of water damage to your home is enough to make a homeowner shiver. Thankfully, many sources of water damage can be prevented.
SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties has a few tips to help you avoid water damage to your home this winter. By following these tips, your home will be at a lesser risk of a water damage disaster.
- Check your water heater. Water heaters normally last about 8-12 years. However, if it is not properly cared for, it can corrode and cause leaks or overflow. To ensure your water heater is up to par, check it periodically for moisture or water surrounding the stand it rests on.
- Clean your gutters. If there is a buildup of debris in your gutters it will stop them from doing their job properly. As a result, water can spill over through the roof, into the foundation, and down to your basement or crawl space.
- Prevent frozen pipes. Frozen pipes can cost thousands of dollars in damage and put your home at risk of mold and microbial growth. Pipes located in the outside walls, crawl spaces, and attics are the most vulnerable to freezing. Insulate the pipes that are exposed to cold air and keep the faucet dripping during extremely cold weather.
By implementing these tips, you are less likely to experience water damage this winter. However, should you find your home with water damage, give SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties a call! The SERVPRO team is faster to any disaster and will make it, “Like it never even happened.”

Fall Storms
8/13/2021 (Permalink)
During the Fall Season, it is not uncommon for powerful storms to move through our area.
During the Fall Season, it is not uncommon for powerful storms to move through our area. Whether it be strong winds, heavy rainfall that can lead to flooding, or solid precipitation such as hail, these weather acts have the potential to wreak havoc on residences and personal property.
Fortunately, SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties has important tips for how to protect the homes we cherish so much, and what to do in the event that damage does occur.
You should always check to make sure your current roof is in good condition. Loose shingles, or issues with gutters, drains, or downspouts can exacerbate any problem with a storm quickly. Also, make sure that any low-hanging tree limbs have been trimmed and are not at risk of falling easily.
If you have a sump pump in your basement or crawl space, checking to make sure it is working properly can be crucial in avoiding any type of flooding when heavy rainfall occurs. If flooding does take place, make sure to check all areas of your home for places where water may be accumulating or not draining. Standing water can lead to mold very quickly, and is best to be avoided if at all possible.
As much as we would like to prevent storm damage from occurring, sometimes it is simply out of our control. When this happens it is important to reach out to the professionals immediately. The team at SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties has the expertise needed to handle any or all storm-related problems. With SERVPRO's 24/7 service, the team will arrive faster to any disaster.

Signs of Water Damage in Your Bathroom
8/3/2021 (Permalink)
Don’t fall victim to water damage in the bathroom.
Your bathroom sees the highest water usage in your home, so it’s an area where water damage can easily occur. The damage can often be found behind the walls or under the floor. You might think soaking the water up with a towel will suffice, but more than likely the water has already begun wreaking havoc.
When water pools under the bathtub or shower it can cause mold or mildew to form which leads to wood rot. This damage can be so severe that it is possible for your bathroom appliances to fall through the floor if not remedied. Don’t fall victim to water damage in the bathroom- check for these three signs you may have bathroom water damage:
Spongy or soft floor- If your bathroom has a wooden floor, the sub floor is likely made of plywood. If plywood is subject to water, it will begin to rot, and your floors will feel spongy or soft in places.
Musty smell- If your bathroom continues to smell musty or damp, even after you clean it, you might have mold and mildew in the walls and subfloor.
Gaps between caulk, tub, and tile- If you have visible gaps in the grout or caulk of your shower or bathtub, water might be seeping into the walls and subfloor. This water leak could lead to mold, mildew, and wood rot.
If you notice any of these signs in your bathroom, don’t wait to call for help. SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties offers 24/7 emergency services and are faster to any disaster. Give us a call if you suspect water damage and the team will make it, “Like it never even happened.”

How To Prevent Water Damage in Your Garage
7/28/2021 (Permalink)
Your garage could be in danger of water damage.
Whether it be heavy rainfall, flooding from melted snow, or some sort of water leak- your garage could be in danger of water damage. If your garage is storing more than just a car, it’s important that those items do not get ruined. Next to the basement, the garage is the single largest storage area found in most homes.
Not only can items become damaged due to water, but the foundation of your home can suffer as well. Garage doors are notoriously difficult to completely seal, giving water access to the inside. It’s also important that the gutters around your garage are working properly and effectively.
Prevent water damage to the items you are storing in your garage by following these helpful tips and tricks:
- Install sandbags or flood barriers around cracks and between the doors and garage. This will prevent the water from seeping into your garage and home.
- Create an effective plan for landscaping. Putting bushes, grass, or trees close to your home and garage will help with water absorption and allow less to get near your home.
- Replace the weatherstripping on your garage door as it wears down to allow it to work properly.
- Keep gutters clean and free of loose debris that would keep the water from draining.
- Store your valuable items highest off the ground- using shelves, bins, or pallets.
Should you find yourself the victim of water damage in your garage, no need to panic. SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties offers 24/7 emergency restoration services and will have the mess, “Like it never even happened.”

7/26/2021 (Permalink)

Mold can smell like rotting wood or wet socks. If you notice this smell in your home or excess water, call SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties immediately. Storm Season is Here: What to Watch For
We are all looking forward to a warmer weather as the spring season begins. There are, however, a few things to keep in mind to help you stay safe during any disaster this time of the year.
Severe changes in weather temperatures can trigger disasters such as thunderstorms, flooding, and tornadoes. As we go throughout the season, be sure to prepare yourself and your loved ones for weather disasters:
- Thunderstorms are common during the spring and summer seasons. Due to the way they originate, these can happen anytime and anywhere. The most common consequence can be roof damage due to trees falling near your home. If you notice roof damage, contact a local roofing contractor and reach out to SERVPRO if that led to any water damage within your home.
- Hail and heavy rain are frequent due to the drastic temperature changes that are common in the spring. Intense storms can produce hail leading to severe roof damage. Be sure to keep your gutters clean for rainwater to flow freely to the ground and avoid flooding in your basement or crawlspace. If you experience flooding in your home, contact SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties right away so we can remove the moisture and help you avoid mold damage.
- Windstorms and tornadoes are also common during this time of the year. Make sure to identify a safe room for you and your family to go when a disaster occurs. Following high winds or tornadoes, be on the lookout for fallen trees that are around your house and look for missing roof shingles and gutter damage.
We at SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties are committed to helping our community no matter what season it is. If you find yourself in need of help after suffering from a disaster, know that we are here for you. We are a team that takes pride in being faster to any size disaster to make it “Like it never even happened.” Give us a call at 765-575-8654!

Snow Thaw Awareness for Homeowners
2/20/2021 (Permalink)
Thawing snow, especially when combined with early spring rains can lead to serious trouble.
The weather patterns that come with spring can be unpredictable. Temperatures can begin to rise in a short amount of time going from a snowstorm to a warm breeze in a matter of days. It’s important to prepare for any disaster that might occur in your home due to snow thawing.
Thawing snow, especially when combined with early spring rains can lead to serious trouble. When water starts to flow, be sure to continually monitor the basement and crawl space in your house. Look for ways to create paths for melting snow to drain away from your house in order to prevent water from accumulating in those lower areas of your home.
As the weather gets warmer, every surface starts to become moist and humid from thawing. This could jumpstart mold growth in spaces like your basement, crawl space, or garage. Exposure to mold can cause health problems for you and your family, making mold prevention a high priority for homeowners.
SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties is committed to providing our community with the best advice and service possible. Should your home fall victim to a water mess, we guarantee to make it “Like it never happened.” Give us a call at (765) 575-8654 for help with disaster cleanup.

How to Prevent Pipe Freezing
1/15/2021 (Permalink)
Insulation sleeves help to prevent pipes from freezing.
Frozen pipes can have many consequences within your home, causing a chain reaction of events. The freezing of pipes occurs when there is lack of access to water or when there is continuous stress placed on the pipes due of temperature drops.
Prevent these consequences by readying your home for winter by:
- Make sure all pipes are wrapped in insulation sleeves to prevent from freezing. Consider insulating whole areas of your home that are more likely to get cold such as exterior walls, ceilings, foundation, attic, and basement.
- Let cold water drip from the faucet served by exposed pipes. Circulation through the pipe, even a little, will help prevent pipes from freezing.
- Keep the thermostat set to the same temperature both during the day and at night. It may incur a higher heating bill but can help prevent a costly repair job.
- Consistently check your plumbing for corrosion or air leaks that can cause warm air to escape and cold air to get in.
By following these tips, your home will be ready for cold temperatures. However, should you find yourself victim of a frozen pipe mess, give SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties a call. We offer 24/7 emergency services and can make the disaster “Like it never even happened.”
What Causes Pipe Freezing
12/31/2020 (Permalink)
Frozen pipes are among the most significant problems that can occur during the coldest months.
Winter can bring costly damages for homeowners if several precautions aren’t followed. Frozen pipes are among the most significant problems that can occur during the coldest months. Suffering from frozen pipes can cause a large amount of damage to your home.
Luckily, SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties are here to provide the services you need to stay safe and warm for the winter. We have highly trained restoration technicians offering 24-hour emergency services.
Some of the causes of pipe freezing include:
- Pipes freeze due to not being insulated. Insulation keeps the warm in and cold out, helping to protect pipes and preventing them from freezing.
- Pipes freeze due to cold areas. It is common that some areas of your home are more likely to be colder than others. This includes crawl spaces, exterior walls, basements, or any spot that isn’t used often. The lack of insulation in walls, floors, ceilings, or foundation can allow the formation of cold zones that increase the possibility of pipes freezing.
- Pipes freeze due to no water circulation. With water constantly moving through the pipes, it is less likely that they will freeze. But we know that not every water supply is used all the time and, in very low temperatures, water or drainage pipes in which there is no circulation are more likely to freeze.
Rather than dealing with the stress of a disaster in your home, trust the professionals and follow these guidelines to make your home a safer place for your family. At SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties we care about our client’s safety and make sure to be faster to any disaster, guaranteeing quality service to make it look “Like it never even happened.”

Do’s and Don’ts for Water Flooding
10/31/2020 (Permalink)
Understand how to handle a flood in your home to ensure the least amount of damage is done.
Water can flood and damage several areas of your home very quickly. If this disaster occurred, do you know the do’s and don’ts of how to proceed? It’s important to understand how to handle a flood, to ensure the least amount of damage is done.
Do:
- Turn your air conditioning system on high for drying purposes if the flood occurs in the summer. This will help reduce any chance of mold or mildew from the humidity.
- Remove colored rugs from wet carpeted areas. The color in the rugs can transfer and stain your carpet.
- Move all art objects to a safe, dry place.
- Hang fabrics such as leather goods and furs.
Don’t:
- Use your household vacuum cleaner to suck up water.
- Turn on ceiling fixtures if the ceiling is wet. This can lead to electrical issues and can do more damage to your ceiling.
- Leave wet fabrics up, such as curtains or drapes. These items need to be taken down to dry out as soon as possible.
Floods can happen in your garage, basement, kitchen, bathroom, and many other parts of your home. If you find yourself in the midst of a water flood, contact SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties. We are faster to any disaster and can make it, “Like it never even happened.”

SERVPRO to the Rescue

SERVPRO to the Rescue
Local community buildings rarely experience daily use. When the building is closed, many times heating and air conditioning are shut off to decrease utility bills. However, when the weather is hot and humid, the lack of airflow in the building can lead to the development of microbial growth. This was exactly the case for the community building in Sulphur Springs, Indiana.
When the Sulphur Springs Community Building was set to be used, the condition was found to be unusable. The tables and other touch surfaces had begun developing microbial growth due to the lack of airflow in the building- caused by the air being shut off. While turning off the air had saved money in energy costs, these warm, moist conditions led to mold and bacteria growth.
SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties cleaned the building with their proven mold-fighting techniques and made it “Like it never even happened.” The SERVPRO team stays up to date on best practices when cleaning up a mess like this, making them the best for the job!
Does your community’s building need cleaned upon reopening? Give SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties a call at 765-575-8654.

Water damage in a home can lead to bigger disasters that involve electric, sewage, and even mold.
When water damage occurs in your home, the first instinct is to clean up the mess. While it is important to take care of the damage, it is not always something you should do yourself. Water damage in a home can lead to bigger disasters that involve electric, sewage, and even mold.
Due to every water damage situation being unique, SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties has tailored solutions for each specific condition.
Electrical damage: Determining the degree of damage is the most important step when it relates to electrical damage. Figuring out if the items were completely submerged underwater, or just wet from rainfall can differentiate whether it is salvageable or not. It is important to not touch electrical items following water damage because you could harm yourself or others.
Sewage: Water that contains sewage is very dangerous because it is unsanitary and may contain bacteria and viruses. SERVPRO will inspect the contaminated water to determine what type of water it is- clean, gray, or black. After determining the type of water, SERVPRO’s highly trained technicians will extract the water and restore the damage.
Mold: It is vital to not let mold go untreated in your home. Mold can spread in as little as 48 hours, producing allergens and irritants along the way. It is important to not try to clean mold yourself, as health effects can occur from the spores. SERVPRO technicians receive regular training and have the most up-to-date certifications on understanding and cleaning mold.
Should you find yourself dealing with water damage, reach out to SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties. The SERVPRO team is highly trained to handle situations like water damage, so your home will look, “Like it never even happened.”

Water damage can occur to your home during any season. During the warmer months, however, it can be more serious because it can begin to grow mold. Signs that your home has water damage:
- Wet spots, drips, or puddles around pipes, sinks, toilets, taps, etc.
- Dark or wet spots on the ceiling or walls.

Tips to Avoid a House Fire
4/22/2020 (Permalink)
Here are other tips to help you avoid a house fire.
A house fire is a disaster no homeowner wants to fall victim to. People will remind you to blow out candles, unplug curling irons, and keep heaters in an open area. However, there are other tips to avoiding house fires you might not think about!
- Keep your dryer’s lint trap clean and free of built-up lint. The dryer can get so hot while cycling that the built-up lint will catch fire. After each dryer cycle, clean out the lint trap before beginning a new cycle.
- Turn off heated blankets/mattress pads. During the colder months it’s nice to have a heated blanket/mattress pad on your bed. Before you begin your day, be sure to turn all “heated items” off. These items are liable to overheat and catch your bed on fire.
- Unplug unnecessary items from extension cords. Having too many items plugged into an extension cord can lead to overloading the circuit- which can result in the cord sparking a fire.
Following these tips will aid in reducing the possibility of having a house fire in your home. Accidents can happen at any time, however. If you find yourself in a situation that involves a house fire, give SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties a call at 765-575-8654. We’ll make it, “Like it never even happened.”

Spring Storms: What’s your plan?
4/14/2020 (Permalink)
Your family is the most important thing in your life. Make a disaster plan to keep your family safe.
Finally, it’s Spring again…that time of year when the birds are singing, flowers are blooming, and storms are brewing on the horizon. It’s important to remember that severe storms can happen day or night, and at any time of the year. Storms can bring with them rain, hail, lightning, and winds that sometimes result in tornadoes.
Does your family have an action plan in place for severe weather? Be sure to get all members involved. The time to plan is now, before bad weather strikes.
Determine the safe room- a location on the lowest floor of your home that has no windows. This location needs to have as many walls as possible between you and the outside world. It could be a basement, inner closet or bathroom. Be creative. Plan to use a table, mattress, blankets, or even winter coats as layers of protection, when needed.
Make a list of important phone numbers and save them on everyone’s phone. List the information in your safe room as well. Some people write numbers on the wall of their garage, on a chalk board by the phone, or on the basement wall. Be sure to include the non-emergency numbers for your local police, fire and rescue. Add the numbers of important businesses, like your electric, phone, cable, plumber, repair services and SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties. Include family, friends and neighbors. Your list should include anyone you may need to call in case of an emergency. This could be a fun art project for kids!
Now is the perfect time to replace batteries in your flashlights. Keep candles and matches handy in your safe area, too. Be sure to keep your cell phones and external chargers charged up. Keep your battery radio or weather radio in this area, as well. Go ahead and put a few distractions in your safe area. Maybe a distraction game, book or coloring book for the kids. Plan to put everyone in their bicycle or football helmets, when possible.
Have a plan for your animals, too. Have a small carrier ready to scoop up your cat or small dog. Have a leash on hand for larger dogs. You may want plan to use a knob or hook on the wall to secure the leash while you wait out the storm.
It’s important that you and your family has a disaster plan and that everyone knows what they are to do in case of severe weather. Your family is the most important thing in your life. Make a disaster plan to keep your family safe, and when the storm passes, give SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties a call to take care of any damage that occurred. We make it “Like it never even happened.”

When Thunderstorms and Flooding Strike- Give SERVPRO a Call
3/17/2020 (Permalink)
Spring Storm on the Horizon
It’s great to look forward to the warmer days of spring, but it’s also important to remember that this change in the weather can bring disaster with it. Warming temperatures threaten to trigger thunderstorms and flooding. As spring continues, here are a few things to keep in mind:
- Thunderstorms occur most often in the spring and summer months during the afternoon and evening hours but can occur anywhere and anytime. These powerful storms can dump large amounts of rain in a short period of time, resulting in flooding and power outages. Be sure to keep your gutters cleaned out and properly working to avoid large accumulation of rainwater.
- Flooding during storms are common but can be more serious during the springtime. Homes and business owners with basements need to pay close attention during flood season, to avoid damage to the foundation.
Never drive through flooded roadways and avoid contact with floodwater when possible. If the water has entered a structure through the flooding of a creek, stream or river, or if it has filtered through insulation during its intrusion, it is also to be considered black water and could be hazardous to your health.
“If your home or business is affected by a flood, remember, quick action is critical to minimizing damage and long-term health risks,” says John Mantor, owner of SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties. “We hope people will simply add us to your contact list in your phone. We’re here to help.”

SERVPRO, the #1 choice for cleanup and restoration
Coronavirus Update
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is responding to an outbreak of a respiratory disease caused by a novel (new) coronavirus. The virus known as “coronavirus disease 2019” (abbreviated “COVID-19”) is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person or through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes. It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.
Scope of Cleanup Protocol
The SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties team can perform a proactive cleanup that involves facility or structure cleaning and disinfection where the customer states that there is no active known threat of COVID-19 contamination or exposure. The customer will be required to acknowledge that cleaning and disinfecting will only apply to the current state of the structure and contents.
The structure would not be protected from future COVID-19 contamination if an infected person was to enter and occupy the building.
Cleanup Scope of Work and Planning
The CDC encourages cleaning of high-touch surfaces such as counters, tabletops, doorknobs, light switches, bathroom fixtures, toilets, phones, keyboards, tablets, and tables at a minimum. These same surfaces are mentioned in the CDC’s guidance for commercial spaces as well, including:
- Kitchen, Food Areas and Bathrooms
- Schools, Classrooms, Offices and Retail Spaces
- Shelving, Racks and Sales Counters
- Carpets and rugs
- Water Fountains, Stair Handrails and Elevator Cars
- Playground and Fitness Equipment
Cleanup and Disinfecting Procedures
Cleanup procedures generally include cleaning of porous and non-porous surfaces, disinfecting of non-porous surfaces, cleaning and disinfecting of equipment, tools, and/or supplies used for cleanup process, and disposal of waste. Fighting Water Damage From Winter Storms
2/21/2020 (Permalink)
Home in Winter
When the temperatures are low, most are only concerned about snow flurries. However, there’s more to worry about than those white flakes. Winter storms can lead to damage to your home you might not be aware of. Things to watch for are…
- Frozen pipes. When it gets cold enough outside for the rain to begin freezing, your pipes are liable to freeze as well. If you don’t take precaution to prevent the freezing, water can leak and lead to water damage. Open your cabinets allow more heat to the pipes and turn your faucet on slightly to keep water moving.
- Flooding. When melting snow combines with heavy winter rains, flooding is a real threat. Keep an eye on your basement and crawlspace for signs of flooding, and check around the outside of your home for areas where water isn’t draining. Water accumulation can lead to mold, something nobody wants.
- Gutter damage. Snow and ice can lead to damage to your gutters. Sometimes your gutters cannot hold the weight of snow or your gutters may wear down from ice. It’s important to ensure your gutters are working properly and ready to take on the influx of spring rain.
Should you find damage to your home from winter storms, it’s important to first try removing the moisture. SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties can help you dry everything out. SERVPRO can inventory, clean, and return items to you mold-free. Finally, you’ll want a solution in place so you will be less likely to experience flooding again. The expert team at SERVPRO can offer advice and solutions to keep basements and crawlspaces dry.
Should you have any questions about winter storm damage or feel you might have damage… give us a call at (765) 575-8654. We can make the damage “Like it never even happened.”
Take Precautionary Measures to Avoid House fires
2/11/2020 (Permalink)
A Fire alarm
Is your house properly equipped in case of a fire emergency? No one wants to think about a fire happening to them, but according to the National Fire Protection Association, there are more than 350,000 home structure fires every year. SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties wants your family to stay protected. If a fire happens in your home, several precautions can help you stay safe.
- First and foremost, you should perform regular safety checks in your home. It’s vital that everyone living in your home knows the location of a fire extinguisher, as well as how to operate it properly. Keep your fire alarm batteries fresh and be sure they are always working. A good rule of thumb is to use a daylight savings time change to prompt you to change your detector’s batteries.
- Having a planned escape route can make getting out of the home a lot smoother in the event of a fire. Being aware of all possible exits-- and knowing which one to use depending on where the fire is-- can help everyone get out safely. It’s important to plan for pets as well. Designate a family member to help pets safely get out of the home.
Taking precautionary measures for a possible house fire will aid in evacuating the home and the safety of all family members. Should you find your possessions have been damaged due to fire, give SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties a call. The team at SERVPRO offers 24/7 service and will make it “Like it never even happened.”

It’s easy to assume your walls are clean, but the walls and ceilings need a periodic deep clean as well. They are exposed to dirt, dust, smoke, and other contaminants over time. Even though there might be snow in the forecast now, spring weather is just around the corner. This means more sunshine, warmer air, and complete thawing of all things cold. It can be very exciting anticipating the temperatures to come, but it’s important to be aware of the disaster that could come from ice and snow thawing.
When the thawing begins, the water must go somewhere. Depending on the amount of water, many different results can occur. One of the most important things to watch for is flooding in your basement or crawl space. The water is going to naturally run down, which can cause water damage to anything in your basement, flooring, and walls.
Where there is a persistent source of water, there is always a potential for mold. As the temperature begins to rise and everything is moist from thawing, keep an eye out for mold around your home. Specifically check closely in your basement, crawl space, and garage.
Should you find your home in danger of disaster when the thaw happens, don’t worry. SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties are faster to any disaster! Do your best to be cautious and avoid the damage from occurring. However, if issues occur, SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties can make it “Like it never even happened.”
When Cold Weather Leads To Disaster
1/7/2020 (Permalink)
Frozen pipes
Cold weather and snow can be fun when you’re sledding down a hill or having a snowball fight. However, the freezing temperatures aren’t as appealing when it means the pipes in your home are frozen or your roof suffers damage. When this type of disaster strikes, immediate action is necessary to prevent more damage from occurring to your property. SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties have the winter storm experience to remediate damage caused by the winter weather.
Extreme cold weather can lead to frozen pipes that can later burst. Pipes are more likely to freeze when the temperature is below 20 degrees Fahrenheit, and the resulting water damage can be extensive. Outdoor pipes or unheated area pipes should keep an eye on include…
- Outdoor hose bibs
- Water sprinkler lines
- Swimming pool supply lines
- Basements
- Garage
- Crawl spaces
- Under sinks
Pipes aren’t the only victims in the cold weather: ice and heavy snowfall can cause significant damage to your gutters and roof. If the additional weight of the snow is heavy enough, it can even cause the roof to collapse. Water can also get into cracks and small spaces, and the repetition of freezing and thawing can cause the small cracks to get larger. Pay close attention to your exterior and consider a monthly “walk around” your home to look for any obvious issues.
Frozen pipes and roof damage can become serious problems if you don’t take action immediately. The team at SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties is ready to make your disaster “Like it never even happened.” Give us a call at (765) 575-8654.

Did You Recently Move Your Business? Be Sure You Have an Emergency Readiness Profile
11/8/2019 (Permalink)
Did your business recently move locations? If disaster were to occur, do you or your employees know what to do? Chances are you have no idea and neither does anyone else in your building. This is why SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties recommends an Emergency Readiness Profile (ERP) for every business.
The SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties team offers a complimentary ERP, where they will come to your business and build it for you. This is a profile containing important information such as where the water turnoff valves are located, who provides your electricity, and where emergency exits are located. The results are compiled in a bright green folder that you can share with your team and keep in an easily accessible location. SERVPRO will also keep a copy on file in the case of a disaster that prevents you from accessing your copy of the ERP.
Having an ERP will give you peace of mind that those in the building will always have an easy-to-reference profile containing any vital information needed. Now, when disaster strikes, your team can refer to the ERP and the situation will soon be under control. Should the emergency get out of hand, give SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties a call and a member of our 24/7 service team will be on their way.
Preventing Winter Water Damage
11/2/2019 (Permalink)
Water damage to your home isn’t something that only occurs in the spring. During the colder months, snow melts and turns into water- which can turn into costly damage to your home. SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties is faster to any size disaster and we offer 24-hour emergency services. However, by following these tips you can save yourself a lot of time and money by avoiding the problem altogether:
- Protect your pipes- Flooding from frozen burst pipes is an expensive fix, and fairly simple to avoid. Check your plumbing for corrosion and wrap insulation sleeves around pipes in unheated/outdoor areas. If the temperature is going to dip below freezing, keep your water dripping in all faucets.
- Drainage from the roof- Heavy snowfall can damage your roof, especially if it’s flat. Icicles can potentially tear your gutters and roof shingles off. Hire someone to clear your roof if there is a heavy snowfall. Be sure to insulate your attic floor and keep the attic itself cool and well-ventilated.
- Basement water damage- Basements are ground zero, being the ideal spot for potential water damage. If you store a lot of things in your basement, keep them off the floor by storing them on skids. Keep an eye on your hot water tank as well, the lifespan of one is about 10 years.
Should you fall victim to winter water damage, have no fear. Give SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties a call and we’ll make it, “Like it never even happened.”
Prevent Fire Damage With These Tips
9/16/2019 (Permalink)
Fire damage in your home can lead to major destruction but can often be prevented. Many don’t realize the simple prevention steps that can lead to their house being less likely to catch fire. By being more aware and taking precautions you can save yourself from the headache of a house fire- and from the damage that follows.
The most important thing to remember is to test your smoke alarms regularly. The batteries in your smoke alarm don’t last forever and will need to be changed periodically. By testing the alarms throughout your home, you are making sure they are still fully functional and will do their job in case of an emergency.
Be sure to keep your stove and oven cleaned out. Small bits of food and drippings can begin to pile up in the bottom of the oven, which can lead to small fires occurring. By cleaning out your oven every so often, it eliminates the chance of a fire… and you now have a clean oven!
Always check your dryer’s lint trap after each dry cycle. Get into the habit of cleaning out the lint trap after your remove your clothes from the dryer when they are finished drying. The lint can begin to build up and overheat, causing the dryer to catch on fire.
Practice caution with candles and never leave them burning for too long. Don’t leave candles unattended around small children or animals and keep them away from flammable objects. Always blow them out before you leave the house or go to sleep at night.
Fires cannot always be avoided, but precautionary measures can be taken to make them less likely. Keep a fire extinguisher around in case of emergency and call 911 should a fire occur. If you find yourself victim to a house fire, contact SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties to take care of the mess afterwards- we’ll make it “Like it never even happened.”

8/21/2019 (Permalink)
Working for SERVPRO is more than just driving around in a bright green truck. The team at SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties is dedicated to providing quality restoration services. Outsiders may see restoration as a series of “odd jobs,” but those who work for SERVPRO get a thrill out of the variety. Holli Poe especially loves that each day is different.
Every morning for Holli typically begins the same way- with a crew meeting, loading the vehicles for the days’ work, and collaborating with the team on the projects scheduled for the day. After that she is on her way to begin making the messes, “Like it never even happened.”
Holli shared a story about a client that with SERVPRO’s help came through a difficult trial… “We had a very kind customer who had a budget but also a lot of damage. We helped as much as we could and worked within her budget to clean it as much as possible with the constraints. She was very understanding and very happy at the end of the job.”
The SERVPRO team, including Holli, prides themselves on always helping or fixing any issue very professionally. They ensure the clients and customers are number one and always want SERVPRO to be the first call you make. When Holli isn’t working with the team you can find her volunteering at the Salvation Army or spending time with her family and friends.
“I appreciate the work SERVPRO provides for me daily,” Holli added. “And I enjoy all the people I work with.”
SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties appreciates all the work Holli does, and we are so glad you are on our team!

Do you have hail damage?
8/18/2019 (Permalink)
While hail can seem cool when you’re measuring to see how large it is, it can be pretty scary afterwards once you see the damage it has caused. These frozen balls of ice that fall from the sky can cause a large amount of damage to cars, homes, and businesses. If you are ever to experience a hailstorm, the first step is to take immediate cover. After the storm has passed, it is then time to check your belongings and evaluate the possible damage. Common areas to check around your home and business for hail damage are…
- Cars
- Roof
- Siding
- Windows
- Air Conditioner
- Gutters
Once you have evaluated the damage, be sure to locate any excess flooding as well. Along with hail comes rainfall, meaning flooding can occur. Remove excess water by mopping and blotting or turning on the air conditioner (if there is no damage to it). Gather loose items from the floor and put them in a dry safe place.
After you have the water under control call the experts at SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties. As a locally owned and operated business, we understand that you need help fast, which is why we are faster to any disaster. In no time we will have your property “Like it never even happened”.

Working in restoration is definitely not for everyone. For some however, it’s their niche. Justin is part of the team at SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties, and he enjoys making it “Like it never even happened.” Every day is different in the realm of restoration, but that’s what keeps Justin on his toes and looking forward to each day serving the community through SERVPRO.

“I appreciate getting out in our community and having the chance to meet new people and build special relationships,” Justin explained. “Our SERVPRO crew is like family and we like to extend that to others.”
Justin recalls helping a woman in the community who slipped into a depression after her mother passed. “Because of the depression, she kind of let things go,” Justin recalled. “SERVPRO was able to help, not only clean her house of the clutter and debris, but also allow her a fresh start in her home.”
He also had the opportunity to help a friend during the winter months. “My friend had gotten stuck in a muddy field and by the time the vehicle was freed, the entire thing was covered in mud. The SERVPRO team was able to take care of him and get him out of the pinch. He really appreciated it.”

Seeing the Difference: Ray’s Story
5/1/2019 (Permalink)
Many people don’t get to see the immediate result of the work they do. That’s not the case with Ray Dickey, Operations Manager with SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties. Ray has the opportunity to see the difference SERVPRO makes for residents and businesses in the Henry and Randolph County area.
There aren’t many typical days for Ray, but he does usually start the day going over his productions schedule and getting the SERVPRO team of professional in place.
“Later, I’ll go out to do inspections on new jobs so we can get estimates going,” Ray noted. “I also like to check in on our current projects and make sure the staff has what they need.”
Back at the office, he helps field calls and emails, works on estimates, and lines up subcontractors when needed. Sometimes he needs to pitch in to help on a job. Ray appreciates the opportunity to see how SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties is making a difference for the people in the community.
“You can see the direct results right in front of you,” he shared. “We take a job from unclean and potentially hazardous… sometimes uninhabitable... to where it’s clean and safe to live and work in.”
Some of the jobs Ray has worked on have touched his heart. He recalls one family who had a little boy with a terminal illness. Through a non-profit foundation, he was able to take the trip of a lifetime. When the family came back home, however, there had been a fire in the house and the fire extinguisher had left behind a powder that made it challenging for him to breathe inside the home.
“This little boy just wanted to get back home, and his family wanted him to be able to spend his last days at home,” Ray explained. “They got ahold of us and we were able to go over immediately so he could go inside his home where he wanted to be.”
While Ray prides himself in caring for clients like they were family, sometimes they actually are.
“Right now, I’m working on a family member’s house that has severe water damage,” he said. “It’s great to know I can take care of them through a rough situation. They can rely on us.”
Ray has a deep appreciation for the SERVPRO corporation and claims that he bleeds green and orange. He has taken almost every certification available through SERVPRO.
“SERVPRO corporate gives us the tools and resources to provide a great service. I get to make a bad situation ‘Like it never even happened.’”

Proper lifting techniques can result in overall success for everyone and everything involved. A huge bonus to using SERVPRO’s team of professionals… they will move your damaged items for you.

Spring Storms: More than just ‘April showers’
3/20/2019 (Permalink)
As spring settle in, here in the Midwest we know that means spring storms. Here’s a guide from SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties to help prepare for storms and repair from storms if needed.
Before the storm: Make sure your roof is in good condition. If you notice loose shingles, contact a roofing contractor to get them repaired. Be sure that all winter debris is cleared from your gutters, drains, and downspouts. Trim your trees from any hanging limbs that may damage your home or automobiles. If you hear reports of threatening weather coming, do a quick scan of your yard and put away lawn chairs, yard equipment, toys, and delicate lawn ornaments.
During the storm: Stay indoors if possible. Make sure that you have a safe place to stay if there is a tornado. A windowless, indoor room or a basement is preferable. Keep battery-operated flashlight handy and make sure your cell phone is fully charged. Don’t attempt to assess any damages until the storm has passed.
After the storm: The team at SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties is here to help you if spring storms damage your home. If you experience flooding, we can help you dry things out and can prevent mold and mildew from taking over. If you have damage to your home, call us and we will connect you with trusted contractors who can help. We’ll make it “Like it never even happened.”
Giving Back by Serving Friends and Neighbors: John’s Story
3/20/2019 (Permalink)
SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties franchise owner John Mantor and his wife Delmy had always wanted to own their own business. They were introduced to SERVPRO by a friend, and after comparing franchise options and aligning them with family and lifestyle priorities, John and Delmy quickly discovered that SERVPRO was the perfect fit for their family.
John’s typical day at SERVPRO may feel like a whirlwind to onlookers, but he appreciates the opportunity to serve others and so he accepts the whirlwind that comes with this opportunity. No two days are alike. John’s busy days include scopes and estimates for potential clients, staff training, and helping clients with disasters.
“I love working with the public. It gives me great satisfaction to assist them to get their property back to "Like it never even happened."” John shared. “My customer is often distraught, but I know I can help them get through this situation.”
In one instance, John had an elderly couple who experienced extensive water damage. Water damage is difficult enough, but to compound the problem, there was also hoarding going on. It took several months to remove trash and debris, and then clean and sanitize the structure so that it could be rebuilt. In the end, this SERVPRO client had a beautiful home once again.
“It was an amazing transformation, and I am so glad we were able to help them!” he expressed.
John has had several instances where he was able to help family and friends in moments of distress. From a gallon of paint spilling over in a car’s interior to assisting when a trauma scene cleanup was required, SERVPRO of Randolph and Henry Counties has been there to help.
John loves working for SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties and appreciates the great system that SERVPRO provides and the flexibility his job allows.
“Spending time with my family is very important to me. Serving God and living for Him is my most important endeavor,” he expressed. “I enjoy playing and watching sports and coaching baseball.”
John is able to balance family life and his church life, while still allowing time to work with teens through Babe Ruth baseball programs and serving the children of the community through the Breakfast Optimist club. He loves giving back to the community where he works and lives!

Putting Hands and Heart to Work: Diana’s Story
2/28/2019 (Permalink)
Office Manager Diana Hill puts her hands and heart into working for SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties. Sure, Diana answers phones, handles paperwork and coordinates job audits. But often Diana is also involved in the production work of the personal items that are brought to SERVPRO. This includes hands-on monitoring, cleaning, and keeping an inventory.
Diana’s love for people helps her embrace the variety of tasks that come her way. She has many interesting stories about clients she’s helped, including a skunk that sprayed a dog who then ran throughout a home leaving the “skunk smell” everywhere. She also recalls helping a rental property owner remove smoke and pet damage from a property so it could be sold.
Diana knows better than anyone the difficulties faced after a flood or fire. Her extended family has had two separate instances where SERVPRO’s expert services were needed. In one instance, what some might consider a small washer flood wasn’t a “small flood” to her sister. SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties extracted the water, placed drying equipment throughout to dry the structure. Because of her sister’s allergies, SERVPRO took precautionary measures and scrubbed the air during the entire process, minimizing irritants in the air.
In a separate instance, SERVPRO helped Diana’s family get through a fire. Unfortunately, the home’s structure itself was a total loss, however SERVPRO was able to help clean & restore several personal items. One piece was uncleanable but was still a very special piece to her family, so SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties franchise owner John Mantor took the extra step of contacting a restorer to have the piece restored and refinished. Diana says, “I smile every time I see that piece! I know from my personal experiences what SERVPRO can do to help, and I want to be sure that I am doing all I can for the next person who calls for SERVPRO’s assistance.”
Diana enjoys meeting all kinds of people and helping them. “I appreciate the knowledge I have picked up and studied during my time at SERVPRO. The owner of my franchise is a great guy to work with and holds integrity very high, allowing me to truly love my job and the work we provide to our customers.”
SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties is glad to have Diana on the team!
Wind Storm Havoc: Managing the Aftermath
2/28/2019 (Permalink)
Often wind damage is associated with a tornado, but tornadoes aren’t the only storms capable of producing damaging winds. Damaging winds, often called “straight-line” winds can be just as devastating to property. According to the National Severe Storms Laboratory, straight-line wind speeds can reach up to 100 mph and can produce a damage path extending for hundreds of miles. These winds are often associated with a thunderstorm and may cause power outages and property damage.
After the winds die down, that’s when the team at SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties gets to work. Because these types of wind cause damage to windows, doors, and roofing, it’s important to act fast to protect your property. Here’s what you can do following a damaging wind storm:
- Remain safe. Your safety is more important than anything. Do not risk going out in a wind storm. Even if there is no lightning present, violent winds can cause flying debris.
- Contact SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties. We can come to your property and help you assess the damage. We will work with your insurance company to make it “Like it never even happened.”
- Do not attempt to remove large tree limbs or fallen trees. These jobs are best left to the professionals. SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties can help connect you with a tree removal service.
- Be prepared for short-term and long-term solutions. The SERVPRO team can make sure your home is safe and help prevent further damage. Then, we’ll help you put things back together so you can get back to normal life as soon as possible.
Has your home or business suffered damage from a wind storm? Contact the professionals at SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties at 765-575-8654.
Surviving The Chaos After A Fire
2/18/2019 (Permalink)
A fire at your home or office can feel devastating. After the last firetruck leaves and the smell of smoke is still lingering in the air, where can you turn? As you walk through the rubble, you see your valuables damaged by smoke and soot. The water that helped to save what’s left seems to have ruined a lot of your possessions in the process. It takes more than time to get your life back to normal, and that’s where it helps to have a partner in post-fire cleanup.
SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties understands the feelings of devastation that follow a fire and they are ready to help you make things “Like it never even happened.” Here’s what we can offer:
- We’ll work with your insurance company. If you have insurance, we will work with them to make sure you get the full benefit of your insurance coverage, and we can even give you advice about how to manage replacement needs.
- Our SERVPRO team will carefully sift through your belongings and help you determine the things you need “right now,” what you need “later on,” and what will need to be replaced.
- All of your items that can be restored will be collected and cataloged. Everything is accounted for using SERVPRO’s proven process to keep your items safe and restored to their best possible condition.
- Once the team from SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties have your items gathered and cataloged, we’ll begin the restoration process. With our advanced technology, we’ll clean each item and pull all of the “smoke smell” out of your fabrics. We can treat furniture, equipment, clothing, and more.
- We’ll return your items to you in a timely fashion, but that’s not where our service ends. We also can treat your home or office space for water, smoke and soot damage. We can remove this damage from walls, flooring and air ducts.
- One of the phrases we hear a lot from our SERVPRO customers is, “Everything smells so fresh and like new.” That’s the idea. We know the last thing you want to smell after a fire is the smell of fire. We aim to make it “Like it never even happened.”
We hope that you never have to use the fire restoration services available through SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties. It is, however, an honor to serve families and businesses impacted by fire and to guide them through the devastation so that they can return to normal life, “Like it never even happened.”

After the Flood: Safe Cleanup Tips
2/5/2019 (Permalink)
Whether from melting snow or torrential downpours, flooding in Henry and Randolph Counties is not uncommon. Storm damage through flooding can lead to property damage and ongoing mold problems, but the team at SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties has some tips to help:
- Safety first. If you have standing water where electricity may be present, make sure that ALL electricity is turned off to the area to prevent electrocution. When in doubt, contact a professional to help disconnect power.
- Don’t wait. When you’re dealing with water damage, it’s important that you take immediate action so that you can rescue as much as you can. The experts at SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties offer 24-hour emergency water damage service. Call 765-575-8654 to get connected with our team.
- Fight mold. Getting your space dried out as quickly as possible is crucial to avoiding dangerous mold setting in. While things can dry out naturally, this isn’t guaranteed, and it may not be fast enough to prevent mold. SERVPRO has a scientific approach to drying that can help speed up the process and keep mold at bay.
- Give your valuables some love. While not everything can be saved after a flood, you may be surprised at what can be salvaged. Let SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties remove your wet items from the flooded area and take them to our facility for restoration. Our team is trained to remove odors from your items, so they’ll be returned to their original condition (maybe even better!)
- Check for structural integrity. Sometimes a flood can compromise a building’s foundation. This can lead to bigger problems down the road if not addressed immediately. Contact a trusted contractor to assess your facility’s foundation after a flood to make sure it’s in good condition and make the recommended improvements if necessary.
Flood damage after a storm can feel devastating, but with help from the pros at SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties, you’ll soon have your life back “Like it never even happened.”
When Winter Storms Lead To Storm Damage
1/21/2019 (Permalink)
When winter storms result in damage, contact SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties.
Winter is officially here, and while the snow can be pretty, it can lead to damage to your home or business. What kinds of damage can happen during a winter storm?
Roof Damage
When ice and snow weigh down a tree’s branches, sometimes those branches wind up on the roof of your house. That can lead to a more than just a few damaged shingles… if a branch breaks all the way through the roof, it can lead to water damage and more.
In addition, sometimes the weight of heavy snow can cause a roof to collapse. This usually only occurs over the course of several snowstorms and takes several feet of snow.
What to do if it happens to you: Contact SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties and the first thing we will do is stop any further damage by placing a weather-sturdy tarp on the roof. We’ll work with roofing professionals and your insurance company to get a new roof or a roof repair in place quickly so that you can stay warm and dry.
Frozen Pipes
When the temperatures drop during a winter storm, it’s hard for pipes to stay warm. This can lead to frozen pipes that may burst. Signs of frozen pipes include: unusual odors from the faucet or drain, no water (or very little water) coming from the pipes, or frost on the pipes. Find tips for preventing frozen pipes here.
What to do if it happens to you: If it’s not too late, you may be able to prevent your pipes from bursting. Try opening cabinet doors to allow more heat to the pipes and turn on the faucet slightly to allow the water to flow once unfrozen.
Burst Pipes
If you don’t get to your frozen pipes fast enough, you will have pipes that burst. Water leaking will lead to water damage if not managed quickly.
What to do if it happens to you: The first thing to do is to shut off your water at the home’s main water valve. (If you don’t know where that is… call SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties to discuss our free Emergency Ready Profile. We can help you find important details about your utilities before you need it!) If water damage has occurred in an area that uses electricity, use your breaker box to turn off electricity in that area.
Your next step is to call in the pros. SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties has 24-hour service available for emergencies like burst pipes. We’ll get the water damage under control and help you contact a certified plumber to get your pipes repaired.
Flooding
When warmer temperatures hit, all of that snow has to go somewhere. Melting snow, especially when combined with additional rain, can lead to flooding. When your basement or crawlspace has water leaking in, that means that mold is soon to follow.
What to do if it happens to you: Removing the water from the basement or crawlspace is the first step, and SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties can help you dry everything out. Next, you’ll need to have anything stored there treated for mold damage. SERVPRO can inventory, clean, and return items to you mold-free. Finally, you’ll want a solution in place so you will be less likely to experience flooding again. The expert team at SERVPRO can offer advice and solutions to keep basements and crawlspaces dry.

Winter Weather Disasters

Ice Dams
Ice dams can be a major problem during the winter season. An ice dam is a buildup of ice that forms at the edge of a roof and prevents melting snow (water) from draining off the roof. This water that is building up needs a place to go and often will leak into a home and cause damage to walls, ceilings, insulation, and other areas.
Tip:
- Ensure gutters are clean and secure. Leaves and debris accumulate, causing a damming effect on gutters, which could lead to roof problems and water damage.
Frozen Pipes
Almost everyone in Indiana has experienced a frozen pipe at some point in their life. Frozen pipes can burst at the point of the ice blockage, but more often rupture between the water source and blockage due to the backflow pressure. A burst pipe can cause considerable damage to your property if not addressed quickly. SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties is faster to any size disaster, bringing the latest equipment and training to help make your water damage "Like it never even happened."
Tips:
- Keep cabinet doors open during cold spells. This allows warm air to circulate around pipes.
- Keep a slow trickle of water flowing through faucets, especially if the pipes for faucets run through unheated or uninsulated areas of the structure.
- Shut off outdoor faucets. Find the faucets shut-off valve in the basement or crawlspace and turn it to "off". Then open the outdoor faucet to help ensure it drains completely and the inner valve is shut off.
Puffbacks
A puffback is a messy furnace malfunction that occurs when an oil burner backfires, sending soot throughout your home or business. Puffbacks can leak soot particles slowly over time. More commonly, puffbacks happen all at once, covering your belongings and structure in a grimy soot. SERVPRO is equipped and trained to quickly and efficiently clean and restore your home or business following a puffback.
Tip:
- Clean and maintain your HVAC system. Proper maintenance of your furnace can help reduce the risk of puffbacks.

Crawlspace Condensation
11/12/2018 (Permalink)
Vents in the crawlspace
Did you know that a majority of crawlspaces have vents built into them? Do you know that those vent's should be open or closed depending on the time of year?
So when should we open or close our vents?
From April to October you should leave vents open. Once October comes around it is time to close them up for the winter months, through March.
But why does it matter?
A main reason for having the vents closed during the winter months is because the outside air is very cold and the air inside of your house is warm, which will lead to condensation on your subfloor and floor joist where the two air temperatures meet. This can also be the case in the summer when your house is cooler and the outside temperatures are warmer.
Long exposures of condensation can lead to mold build up and rotting wood. Another reason to close your vents in the winter months is to help the crawlspace maintain higher temperatures which can also help prevent pipes from freezing, swelling, and then potentially breaking once they have thawed; these breaks can lead to water damage that could go undetected for a long period of time.
What happens if I discover mold or water damage in my crawlspace?

SERVPRO-PARTNERSHIP

When the local team at SERVPRO learned that the Y was looking for additional ways to thoroughly disinfect the facility, they were glad to help.
By: Christy Ragle (WholeHeart Communications)
The team at SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties love to serve their community. So when they learned that the Henry County YMCA was looking for additional ways to thoroughly disinfect the facility, they were glad to help.
“We use an all-natural disinfectant process that ionizes the air and surfaces,” noted Ray Dickey, SERVPRO’s general manager. “This process leaves no residue and kills bacteria that cause disease.”
This process was welcome news to YMCA Member Services Director Kelsay Smith, who has children who are often in Child Watch and participate in other Y programs. Kelsay feels better knowing her kids are protected from harmful bacteria and viruses. She also sees benefits for the entire YMCA family.
“We are getting ready to launch our Livestrong program to serve people who have been affected by cancer,” Kelsay shared. “These participants often have compromised immune systems and have to be cautious about being in public places like the YMCA. This new disinfection process will help assure the risk of exposure is dramatically decreased.”
SERVPRO’s disinfection process is centered on a product that uses the thyme plant as a primary ingredient. The process was developed by a family who had to be mindful of the residue left by most disinfectant products because of health challenges their son faced. This thyme-based product actually “eats” bacteria and is often used by families who have ongoing health issues. SERVPRO uses the product on their fire restoration and mold remediation projects to keep their staff safe from the harmful chemicals present in standard disinfectants.
The YMCA is currently receiving weekly treatments in Child Watch, the fitness center, and locker rooms along with regular treatments in remaining areas. SERVPRO’s staff is committed to serving the Y and looks forward to an ongoing partnership.
“Our families love the Henry County YMCA, and we have a tool to help,” explained Ray. “We want people to come to the Y and continue to feel good about it.”

The Science of Drying
5/8/2018 (Permalink)
The science of drying is known as psychrometry, the measurement of the properties of moist air. The knowledge of psychrometrics is essential to restoring a water damaged structure to its preloss condition. SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Professionals are trained in the science of drying and follow strict industry-approved standards to help lower the chances of any secondary damages.
Follow the guidelines of the IICRC (Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification) SERVPRO will
- Inspect the building to detect every component that is wet
- Measure how much moisture is in wet materials and monitor whether the materials are drying properly during the process
- “Speed up Mother Nature” by using professional drying equipment
“Speed up Mother Nature”
A wet building can often dry naturally because the environment always seeks equilibrium. The only problem is, nature often takes too long and secondary damages can occur. Because of this, SERVPRO has been trained to use top-of-the line equipment to help Mother Nature along. We speed Mother Nature up by increasing the rate of evaporation. Snow and ice buildup, heavy rains and strong winds can all cause problems with your property.
The sun is out and Spring has sprung...
Now that winter weather is passing, it is the best time to inspect your home or building for weather-related damage. Snow and ice buildup, heavy rains and strong winds can all cause problems with your property. Roofs, gutters and landscapes are exterior elements that should be checked to guard against water damage. Remember to look in attics, basements or crawl spaces for visible signs of water intrusion. Make sure outside vents are clear of any obstruction to ensure proper air flow.
If you find a problem and need water restoration help, call SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties at 765-575-8654.
10 Ways to Prevent Water Damage
- Clean and inspect gutters regularly.
- Keep downspouts clear of any blockages.

- Check for any cracks or peeling paint. These could indicate moisture retention.
- Fill low spots around building foundation with clean fill dirt.

Winter Storms and Extreme Cold

Here at SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties we are always ready to help and prepared for whatever disaster may arise. According to Ready.gov here are some actions you can take to help reduce property damage during a Winter Storm and Extreme Cold.
WINTERIZE YOUR HOME by insulating walls and attics, caulking and weather-stripping doors and windows, and installing storm windows or covering windows with plastic.
INSULATE WATER PIPES. Also, allow faucets to drip or trickle during unusually cold weather or if the power and heat are out to avoid freezing. When water freezes, it expands, and this can cause water pipes to burst. Know how to shut off water valves if a pipe bursts.
CLEAR RAIN GUTTERS, repair roof leaks, check your roof to make sure it can handle the extra weight of the snow and ice, and cut away tree branches that could fall on a house or neighboring structure. Keep pathways and driveways clear between storms to avoid buildup of snow piles and icing.
INSTALL BATTERY-OPERATED CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTORS or electric detectors with battery backups in central locations on every level of your home. This will provide an early warning of accumulating carbon monoxide, which is a colorless, odorless, tasteless, and potentially deadly gas.
HIRE A CONTRACTOR to check the structural ability of your roof to sustain unusually heavy weight from the accumulation of snow and/or ice.
KEEP FIRE EXTINGUISHERS ON HAND and make sure everyone in your home knows how to use them. If your smoke alarms get power from your home’s electrical system (hardwired), make sure the backup battery is replaced at least once a year, so your alarms will work during a power outage.
MAINTAIN HEATING EQUIPMENT and chimneys by having them cleaned and inspected every year by a qualified professional. Renters, either check with your landlord or property manager to ensure that they have taken care of these necessary building improvements or find out your responsibilities with respect to these actions.
In the event of a disaster striking we are always just a phone call away... 765-575-8654
Holiday Safety Tips
11/28/2017 (Permalink)
With the onset of the Holiday season, we will begin decorating our properties with festive lights, trees, candles and much more. If your home—like millions of other households in the United States—includes a natural Christmas tree in its holiday decorations, the breathtaking beauty of this decoration comes with a fire risk.
According to the National Fire Protection Association (nfpa.org) following these tips can help reduce the risk of fire.
PICKING THE TREE
- Choose a tree with fresh, green needles that do not fall off when touched.
PLACING THE TREE
- Before placing the tree in the stand, cut 2” from the base of the trunk.
- Make sure the tree is at least three feet away from any heat source, like fireplaces, radiators, candles, heat vents or lights.
- Make sure the tree is not blocking an exit.
- Add water to the tree stand. Be sure to add water daily.
LIGHTING THE TREE
- Use lights that are listed by a qualified testing laboratory.
- Some lights are only for indoor OR outdoor use.
- Replace any string of lights with worn or broken cords or loose bulb connections.
- Do not exceed manufacturing instructions for number of light strands to connect.
- Never use lit candles to decorate the tree.
- Always turn off Christmas tree lights before leaving home or going to bed.
Although Christmas tree fires are not common, when they do occur they are more likely to be serious.
(source NFPA's website nfpa.org)
Additional Safety Tips
- Use sturdy, safe candle holders places on a flat surface where they cannot be easily knocked down.
- Never leave a burning candle unattended...even for a short length of time.
- If you purchase an artificial tree, look for one that is labeled fire-retardant.
- Unplug or switch off lights when leaving or going to bed.
- Periodically check the wires on your lights, they should not be warm to the touch.
- Do not leave food cooking unattended.
If you or your loved ones experience a fire or water damage this holiday season call SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties at 765-575-8654, our team is always ready to help!

MOLD...Don't let it grow!
8/16/2017 (Permalink)
From the Ordinary...
Fungi and mold naturally occur in our environment. In fact, over 100,000 kinds of fungi have been identified. Fungi produce some very useful results. Yeast is a type of fungi used in preparing breads, baked goods and other food products, including some alcoholic beverages. The unique flavor of blue cheese is a result of mold. An edible mushroom is simply a type of fungi, and lifesaving penicillin is a product of mold (Penicillin chrysogenum).
Even though some forms of mold can add value to our lives, other forms can be harmful. Excessive exposure to molds may present health concerns for some people.
To the Unhealthy...
Intrusion of water into your home or place of business can result in mold growth. Water intrusions can result from storm damage, plumbing or equipment failures, long-standing leaks and poor humidity control. When water intrusions are not addressed right away, the resulting damage can present increased risk of harmful mold growth.
Some amount of mold spores are normally present in most environments. If the humidity and moisture levels in a water-damaged environment are not promptly returned to normal, mold spores may grow and multiply. Organic materials found inside a building, such as wood, paper, drywall and insulation, provide food sources for mold to flourish. Excessive mold growth can lead to indoor environmental conditions that pose a health threat.
Health Concerns
Health concerns may arise when excessive mold grows indoors. Concerns are more likely to arise for “at risk” people. However, anyone may experience health problems associated with exposure to mold in damp buildings. Possible health effects include: runny nose, sneezing, coughing, aggravation of asthma, sore throat or inflammation of the sinuses.
People most at risk include: Infants and children, pregnant women, elderly individuals, people with compromised respiratory systems or asthma and allergies, and people with weakened immune systems.
If you think you might have a mold problem, call 765-575-8654. SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties professionals are always ready to help make it “like it never even happened”.

Emergency Water Damage Tips For Your Home or Business
5/16/2017 (Permalink)
Did you know there are different types of water?
Category 1 Clean - water is from a clean source like a broken water supply line or leaking faucet. If not treated quickly, this water can turn into category 2 or 3, depending on length of time, temperature, and contact with surrounding contaminants
Examples: Broken Pipe, Icemaker, Drain Overflow
Category 2 Gray - water is contaminated and could cause discomfort or illness. May contain bacteria and viruses. Can quickly degrade into category 3 if left untreated.
Examples: Washing Machine, Dishwasher, Roof Leak
Category 3 Black - water is grossly contaminated and could cause severe illness or death if ingested and any contact should be avoided. May contain untreated sewage, harsh chemicals, and microbes.
Examples: flooding from rivers or streams, water from beyond the toilet trap, water from the toilet bowl with feces, or standing water that has begun to support microbial growth.
If you experience a water damage Call SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties 765-575-8654, we are always ready to assist you and make it “Like it never even happened”.

Does Your Henry or Randolph County Home Have A Mold Problem?
5/1/2017 (Permalink)
Microscopic mold spores naturally occur almost everywhere, both outdoors and indoors. This makes it impossible to remove all mold from a home or business. Therefore, mold remediation reduces the mold spore count back to its natural or baseline level. Some restoration businesses advertise “mold removal” and even guarantee to remove all mold, which is a fallacy. Consider the following mold facts:
Mold is present almost everywhere, indoors and outdoors.
Mold spores are microscopic and float along in the air and may enter your home through windows, doors, or AC/heating systems or even hitch a ride indoors on your clothing or a pet.
Mold spores thrive on moisture. Mold spores can quickly grow into colonies when exposed to water. These colonies may produce allergens and irritants.
Before mold remediation can begin, any sources of water or moisture must be addressed. Otherwise, the mold may return.
Mold often produces a strong, musty odor and can lead you to possible mold problem areas.
Even higher-than-normal indoor humidity can support mold growth. Keep indoor humidity below 45 percent.
If your home or business has a mold problem, we can inspect and assess your property and use our specialized training, equipment, and expertise to remediate your mold infestation.
What to Do:
- Stay out of affected areas.
- Turn off the HVAC system and fans.
- Contact SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties for mold remediation services.
What Not to Do:
- Don’t touch or disturb the mold.
- Don’t blow air across any surfaces with visible or suspected mold growth.
- Don’t attempt to dry the area yourself.
- Don’t spray bleach or other disinfectants on the mold.
If You See Signs of Mold, Call Us Today –765-575-8654

Henry County Smoke and Soot Cleanup
8/11/2016 (Permalink)
Smoke and soot is very invasive and can penetrate various cavities within your home, causing hidden damage and odor. Our smoke damage expertise and experience allows us to inspect and accurately assess the extent of the damage to develop a comprehensive plan of action.
Smoke and soot facts:
Hot smoke migrates to cooler areas and upper levels of a structure.
Smoke flows around plumbing systems, seeping through the holes used by pipes to go from floor to floor.
The type of smoke may greatly affect the restoration process.
Different Types of Smoke
There are two different types of smoke–wet and dry. As a result, there are different types of soot residue after a fire. Before restoration begins, SERVPRO of Henry and Randolph Counties will test the soot to determine which type of smoke damage occurred. The cleaning procedures will then be based on the information identified during pretesting. Here is some additional information:
Wet Smoke– Plastic and Rubber
Low heat, smoldering, pungent odor, sticky, smeary. Smoke webs are more difficult to clean.
Dry Smoke– Paper and Wood
Protein Fire Residue– Produced by evaporation of material rather than from a fire
